Straits Times Feature: Building Confidence for Primary One

A happy start to Primary One depends on how confident your child is.

The registration of children for admission to Primary One (P1) classes in 2022 will open this Wednesday, 30 June 2021. How can you prepare your child for life in a primary school? I have shared more opinions in my latest interview with The Straits Times on 28 June.

Confidence building is the key to a happy start in a primary school.
Meaningful incentives are always good encouragement and effective ways of having something to look forward to after school, as compared to a ‘good meal’ or a stationery. Prepare a chart of interesting milestones on a wall. It can be bright and colourful.

Reward your child with a star or a ‘token’ if the child is able to share something he has done well in school. Eg. making a new friend, doing his work well for his teacher, winning a small race during PE, or even getting the right change after paying for his meal during recess.
